What
is medical tourism? Medical tourism is a new
way of having expensive surgical procedures at a fraction of the
normal cost, and enjoying a holiday in an exotic location at the
same time! With the current high costs of healthcare at home,
especially for those without insurance, medical tourism is
offering a way for people to have surgeries that they otherwise
would never have been able to afford. You can travel to many
exotic locations to have your surgery performed in a world-class
medical facility, and then recover on an exotic holiday paid for
by some of the savings you have made!
Is
the medical care outside of the US of the same standard as at
home? This is a question a lot of our
patients ask, and the answer is a resounding yes. MD In India
can book your procedure at one of four fine Indian hospitals.
All of these hospitals are widely recognized as centers of
medical and surgical excellence on the Indian sub-continent, and
many of the surgeons working in these departments are some of
the most well respected in the world. This medical expertise
coupled with the latest in surgical technology makes having your
surgery abroad the best value-for-money option.
How
much can I actually expect to save? The
savings will vary from procedure to procedure, but MD In India
can help you compare several different quotes to get the best
deal on your surgery. Most procedures can be undergone for
between 75-90% less than in the US. This is a result of both the
heavily subsidized Indian healthcare system and the much
stronger position of the US Dollar. Even if you factor in the
price of your flight and a luxury holiday, the entire trip will
still cost you around 20-30% less than it would have at home.
Are their any risks? While
having these surgeries in India is far cheaper than at home,
remember that just because you can afford it does not mean you
should have surgery. Surgery always carries a risk, and unless
you are desperately in need of the procedure you should think
very carefully about whether you are prepared to undergo that
risk. Even the simplest of procedures can come with
complications, which your local surgeon will attest to. There is
always a small risk of venous or nerve damage, internal bleeding
or infection that can cause decreased organ function, paralysis
or death during or after any surgery.
What
do I get when I have surgery in India? Because
we are medical tourism specialists associated with many fine
medical institutions and tourism companies, your entire holiday
will be included in your package. First, you will be picked up
from the airport and accommodated at a luxury four or five star
hotel. We will arrange consultation times, find you comparative
quotes and schedule your surgery before hand from our US
offices. We will transport you to and from the hospital, as well
as offer a wide range of sightseeing tours which you can choose
as part of your package. We will also provide an interpreter
should you request one, but this should not be necessary as all
of the staff in our hospitals speak fluent English.
There
must be a catch: why are these procedures so expensive? There
are two main reasons that contribute to surgery being far less
expensive in India, and absolutely no catch at all! The first is
that the US Dollar/Indian Rupee exchange ratio is about 40:1.
While many prices are more or less comparative, this still
results in huge savings on a lot of products and services if you
are spending US Dollars. The other reason is that India has
vastly different malpractice insurance laws which mean that
doctors still have malpractice insurance, but they pay less than
5% of the insurance premiums they do in the United States. This
greatly reduces Indian Hospitals' overhead insurance expenses,
so the average procedure is far less expensive.
What
kind of procedures can I have done in India? While
many of our affiliated hospitals have specialist divisions in
neurosurgery, obesity or weight loss surgery, joint replacement,
cardiology and ophthalmology you can have almost any procedure
done on your medical holiday. If you don't see the surgery that
you require, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will do
our best to find a hospital that provides that service.
Isn't
traveling after surgery risky? Surgery puts
an enormous amount of strain on your body and its immune system.
With this in mind all of our tour packages are designed to offer
rest and recuperation, and are tailored to your age and the
exact surgery you had performed. Most of our tour packages are
simple sightseeing tours or easy walks, and since you spend a
large portion of your recovery time on holiday in India you
don't have to worry about taking a long flight home immediately
after surgery.
If MD In
India doesn't run the hospital I am going to, how do I know it
is a good one? At MD In India we understand
that nothing is more important that quality health care. There
are hundreds of medical facilities in India, but we have
personally selected four that offer the best health care,
hygiene and medical professionals in the country. These are by
all standards world-class hospitals, and many of the surgeons in
these hospitals have some of the highest success rates in the
world.
How much
communication will I have with the hospital and my surgeon
before treatment? Our purpose is to put you
in touch with fine hospitals who offer medical tourism
facilities. We will organize your initial consultation, and
thereafter you will have fully open communication with the
department handling your procedure, your doctor and the surgeon
who will perform your procedure. |
